Skid DAF System
THE PROBLEM:
A facility producing automotive textiles was struggling with high FOG loadings that were overwhelming it's oil water separator and carbon system. The oil water separator was not operating efficiently so the activated carbon was being spent at a rapid rate and operating costs were skyrocketing. A new, more efficient system was needed but the facility had limited footprint available and downtime needed to be minimized.

EVALUATION:
Jar testing showed that the wastewater contained a great deal of emulsified oil that was not being captured by the oil water separator. A chemical treatment scheme was designed to break the emulsion and allow for improved oil and grease removal. The flocculated solids generated by the chemical treatment were slow rising and would require a very large oil water separator to achieve the necessary separation. DAF bench testing was performed and demonstrated improved separation.

THE PROCESS:
A treatment scheme was developed that included the following steps: wastewater equalization and free oil removal, chemical treatment, dissolved air flotation and finally activated carbon.

THE SOLUTION:
In order to expedite installation and minimize the footprint for the chemical treatment and dissolved air flotation steps a skid mounted plate pack DAF was selected.
